K-Beauty Goes Offline in New York: Why Shinsegae’s HYPER GROUND Matters

K-beauty built much of its global momentum online. Now Shinsegae is bringing a new generation of Korean beauty brands into one of New York’s most visible physical shopping destinations.

Shinsegae HYPER GROUND is scheduled to open at The Shops at Hudson Yards on October 2, 2026. The temporary retail concept brings together more than 30 Korean beauty and lifestyle brands, spanning skincare, makeup, fragrance, wellness, hair care and home.

But the bigger story is not simply that another K-beauty shop is opening in New York. HYPER GROUND offers emerging Korean brands something that can be difficult to achieve overseas: a physical place where shoppers can discover them before those brands have established large U.S. retail networks.

So why does an offline pop-up matter in a beauty market shaped by TikTok, online reviews and global e-commerce?

What Is Shinsegae HYPER GROUND?

HYPER GROUND is Shinsegae’s platform for introducing newer Korean brands to shoppers beyond Korea. Shinsegae has previously used the HYPER GROUND name for projects designed to support Korean brands entering overseas markets.

The New York edition is a K-beauty and lifestyle pop-up on Level 1 of The Shops at Hudson Yards. Hudson Yards describes the concept as bringing Seoul’s newest brands to New York across skincare, makeup, fragrance, wellness and home.

Time Out New York reports that the pop-up will feature more than 30 Korean brands and operate through December 31, 2026. It is substantially larger than HYPER GROUND’s earlier Paris beauty presentation, which featured about 10 brands.

Why Is HYPER GROUND Opening in New York?

New York gives Korean brands access to an international beauty audience in a market where product discovery increasingly happens across both digital and physical channels.

Hudson Yards is especially useful for that strategy because it combines shopping, dining, tourism and experiences in one Manhattan destination. Instead of asking consumers to discover an unfamiliar Korean label through a product page alone, HYPER GROUND can place multiple emerging brands together in a curated physical environment.

According to Time Out, most of the participating brands are expected to make their physical U.S. retail debut through the Hudson Yards project. That makes the store more than a showcase of K-beauty names shoppers already know.

It becomes a discovery platform for what could come next.

Why Does Offline Retail Matter for K-Beauty?

K-beauty’s international rise has been closely connected to digital discovery. Social media, online retailers, reviews and creator content have allowed relatively small Korean brands to reach shoppers far beyond Korea.

Physical retail adds something different.

A shopper can test a makeup shade, smell a fragrance, examine packaging or experience the texture of a skincare product before buying. This is particularly valuable for an unfamiliar brand that does not yet have the recognition of larger global beauty labels.

HYPER GROUND therefore turns online curiosity into a real-world discovery experience. It also gives multiple Korean brands a shared physical presence instead of requiring every emerging label to establish its own U.S. store.

How Does HYPER GROUND Help Emerging Korean Brands?

This is where the New York project becomes especially interesting.

Rather than focusing only on K-beauty products that are already internationally famous, the concept is built around curation and discovery. Time Out reports that participating names include skincare brand skit and Seoul fragrance and lifestyle brand MiHak, alongside a much broader group of Korean labels.

HYPER GROUND can effectively act as a bridge between Seoul’s fast-moving beauty market and overseas consumers.

Shinsegae has experience using the platform in this way. Its earlier overseas HYPER GROUND projects have been positioned as opportunities for Korean brands to meet international consumers and test new markets.

For smaller brands, that shared platform can create visibility that would be difficult to reproduce independently.

Why Is This Bigger Than Skincare?

The Hudson Yards assortment shows how the definition of K-beauty itself is widening.

The official Hudson Yards listing includes skincare, makeup, fragrance, wellness and home. Additional reporting describes six themed areas, including facial skincare and beauty devices, fragrance and home scent, scalp and hair care, nighttime products and inner beauty.

That connects with several changes we have been tracking at Estelle OzK.

Korean beauty is increasingly moving beyond the traditional serum-and-cream model. Our recent SENNOK Seongsu story looked at how Korean bathhouse culture can become part of the beauty experience, while our recent coverage of PDRN and inner beauty explored the expansion of K-beauty into wellness.

HYPER GROUND puts many of those categories under one physical roof.

What Does This Tell Us About K-Beauty’s Next Stage?

The next phase of K-beauty may be as much about distribution and discovery as ingredients.

For years, international K-beauty shoppers often discovered Korean products online first. Now Korean retailers and brands are experimenting with physical spaces where consumers can discover, test and understand those products in person.

We are seeing versions of that transition in different markets. In Australia, mainstream retailers have been expanding their K-beauty assortments. In Seoul, brands such as SENNOK are turning retail into cultural experiences. And in New York, Shinsegae is using HYPER GROUND to introduce a collection of newer Korean brands to an international audience.

These are different strategies, but they point in a similar direction: K-beauty is becoming less dependent on being discovered only through a screen.

Estelle OzK Perspective

The most interesting part of HYPER GROUND is not simply that more K-beauty products are arriving in America. It is who gets the opportunity to be discovered. If physical retail can give emerging Korean brands a place beside more established names, the next globally recognised K-beauty label may be introduced in a store before it becomes a viral search term.
